Every day I get asked the same question, and it usually goes something like… “Matt, what can I do to get rid of this?’ client points to any one of various body parts

What I cannot do is wave a magic wand (yes really, even PT’s don’t have one) and remove fat from a particular area. This is a phenomenon known as spot reduction, and I regret to inform everyone that it doesn’t exist.

A particular exercise or diet will NOT reduce or remove fat from a certain area. Every individual will have a genetic disposition as to where they store and lose fat from first. What I mean by this is that ‘person A’ could drop fat from their stomach first, whilst ‘person B’ could drop fat from their hips first, it will not be the same for every individual is what I’m trying to get at here.

If you want to lose fat from a particular area, you will need to drop fat from your body as a whole.
Try to live a healthier, happier and more enjoyable lifestyle whilst making sensible decisions, and don’t waste time trying to drop fat through spot reduction.
