Well its both there are “good” fats and there is also “bad” fat.
You know when you take a look at yourself in the mirror and you notice that extra padding around your hips, you may automatically think the worst, however it’s not necessarily bad for you.
BUT the fat that is surrounding your midriff or gut, that is a different story all together – to be honest it can be deadly.
Ok the “good” fat, is found in the lower section of your body just beneath your skin. This layer of fat is called subcutaneous fat and as fat goes its not the worst thing to have. This Subcutaneous fat assists with the release of two beneficial metabolic hormones, known as Leptin and Adiponectin.
Leptin plays a key role in regulating energy intake and energy expenditure, including appetite and metabolism. It basically tells your body to hang onto or let go of weight.
Adiponectin is a protein hormone that modulates a number of metabolic processes, including glucose regulation and fatty acid catabolism. It basically lowers your blood sugar. Studies have shown that subcutaneous fat may help improve the sensitivity of insulin and prevent Diabetes.
However the fat in your stomach area that is where the “bad” fat is found, known as Visceral fat. You may be holding this type of fat without knowing, as Visceral fat lies far beneath your skin, hidden so it may not be in plane sight for example a protruding belly. Visceral fat surrounds your organs and releases a harmful hormonal firestorm. This type of fat slows down your metabolism, creates insulin resistance, lowers growth hormone and increases your risk of all kinds of diseases.
Diseases which include; diabetes, heart disease, high blood pressure, and fatty liver disease.
When you are overweight you increase the risk of having Visceral fat.
The best way to lose this fat is by taking care of your self by having a good diet and exercising regularly. Watching what you eat is essential, making sure your not eating large amounts of “fatty foods”. Also balanced with regular exercise will reduce the Visceral fat and lower your risk of all health problems which are associated with it.
